SMS marketing for musicians and record labels

Fans who give an artist their phone number are telling you they want to be first. Encore Text helps musicians, managers and labels honor that with timely, relevant texts: a release going live, a presale code for their city, a limited merch run. Consent records, opt-out handling and quiet hours are built in, so the channel stays healthy as the list grows.

Moments worth a text

  • Release day: the single, album or video is live, with one link.
  • Tour announcements and presale codes for fans in each city.
  • Limited merch and vinyl drops that sell out quickly.
  • Livestreams, listening parties and pop-up appearances.
  • A personal thank-you after a tour ends.

Fans tolerate far fewer texts than emails. A good rule is to text when you would genuinely want a fan to stop what they are doing and look.

Segment fans by city

Area codes are mapped to a region and time zone automatically when contacts are added. Combine that with tags from your sign-up forms, such as the show a fan attended or the store they bought from, to send a Chicago presale only to fans near Chicago. Smaller, relevant sends also mean fewer opt-outs and lower cost.

Labels with several artists

Encore Text keeps one brand per workspace. That matters because carriers verify each toll-free number for a specific sender and use case, and fans expect to hear from the artist they signed up for. A label can run one workspace per artist from a single login, each with its own number, list and billing, and switch between them in the app.

Growing the list with consent

Common sign-up points are a link in bio, a form on the artist site, a keyword announced from the stage or a QR code on merch. Wherever the number is collected, say who will be texting, what kind of messages to expect, roughly how often, that message and data rates may apply, and that people can reply STOP to opt out. Encore Text stores that disclosure with each contact.

Two-way fan conversations

Replies arrive in a shared inbox. Your team can answer questions about shipping or tickets one-to-one, while keywords like STOP and HELP are handled automatically. Opt-outs are honored immediately across every campaign.

Pricing and setup

Plans start at $25 a month for Starter ($19 a month billed annually) and $50 a month for Professional ($39 a month billed annually). Messages are paid from prepaid credits: 1.5¢ per SMS segment in the US, 2.5¢ in Canada and 4¢ per MMS picture message, with a $10 minimum top-up.

Each workspace includes its own dedicated toll-free number with no setup fees. We submit carrier verification for you, which usually takes 3–10 business days.

Measuring what works

Every campaign reports delivered messages, clicks on your tracked link and opt-outs. Compare a release-day text with a tour presale and you will quickly see which moments your fans respond to. If opt-outs climb after a send, that is a sign the message was less relevant than you thought, or that you texted more often than you promised.

Professional plans add more team seats, which helps when a manager, a label marketer and a tour coordinator all need to work on the same artist's list.

Frequently asked questions

Can a label manage several artists?
Yes. Each artist gets their own workspace, number and billing, and you can manage them all from one login.
Can I text a link to a new release?
Yes. Links are shortened on our own domain with per-recipient codes so you can see clicks, and carriers treat them more favorably than public shorteners.
Can I import an existing fan list?
Yes, by CSV, as long as every contact gave consent to receive texts from that artist. You confirm consent during import.
Do fans pay to receive texts?
Fans may pay their carrier's standard message and data rates. Your sign-up disclosure should say so.
